Suspected carjacker arrested after crash of car with baby inside
A man hijacked a car with a baby in it Tuesday evening, crashed in Youngwood and fled on foot, according to Westmoreland County Park Police.
A suspect was found and arrested soon after, police said.
The 18-month-old baby was uninjured, according to Youngwood Fire Chief Lloyd Crago.
Police have not disclosed the circumstances of the hijacking.
The carjacker was on North Third Street in Youngwood around 6:35 p.m. when his car sideswiped another, sending it into a guardrail, Crago said.
The man, so far not identified by police, ran from the scene. Firefighters rescued the 18-month-old baby from the car, and the driver of the other car was uninjured, Crago said.
The baby’s mother, who had been pulled from her car when it was hijacked, was taken to the hospital, Crago said.
The suspect is in custody awaiting criminal charges, according to police.
