Craft distilleries offer samples for homeless benefit at Greensburg eatery
Fans of locally crafted libations can enjoy samples of spirits Saturday in Greensburg while raising money to help the homeless.
“Tasting the Spirits” will be held 4-7 p.m. at Major Stokes, 108 W. Pittsburgh St. Area craft distilleries — including Country Hammer Moonshine, which has a location in North Huntingdon, and Liberty Pole Spirits of Washington, Pa. — will be on hand to provide samples and offer specialty items for purchase.
Admission is $25 at the door or by contacting [email protected] for reserved tickets. A Taste the Spirit T-shirt and goodies are included in the price.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Feeding the Spirit, a Greensburg-based nonprofit that serves weekly meals for those in need. Other ways the group helps include: offsetting co-pays and medication costs; subsidizing utility payments to avoid service shut-offs; providing pet food and hygiene items; supplying bus passes for transportation; securing household items, furniture, groceries, toys, books, and infant clothing; and offering community scholarship funds.
Last year, Feeding the Spirit served 4,825 meals — reaching about 31,000 served since 2011.
Also in 2018, it provided crisis housing for 476 people, helped 197 families meet rent payments and 25 people pay utility bills. It provided gas cards and bus tickets to help in 77 transportation emergencies, assisted with 27 medical co-pays and helped 29 people obtain photo IDs and birth certificates.
