Ex-Ambridge police officer pleads guilty, gets probation
A former part-time Ambridge police officer will serve probation after pleading guilty to drug-related charges.
Andrew Wanto, 31, of Leet, pleaded guilty last week in Beaver County Common Pleas Court to misdemeanor charges of obstruction of administration of law and criminal attempt-possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to 36 months probation.
Wanto, who could not be reached for comment, was accused of buying drugs while on duty as an officer. He is employed as a public works crew leader for Leet Township.
He was charged in December 2013 with two counts of criminal attempt-manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, hindering apprehension or prosecution, four counts of obstruction of administration of law and three counts of criminal attempt-possession of a controlled substance. All but one count of obstruction of administration of law and criminal attempt-possession of a controlled substance were dismissed.
