Pittsburgh police investigate 2nd child-luring attempt by man dressed like Santa
A man dressed like Santa Claus tried to lure children into a van outside a school in Pittsburgh’s Troy Hill neighborhood Tuesday afternoon — the second such attempt in the area on Tuesday, police said.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m., officers responded to calls about the incident observed at Troy Hill Road near the intersection of Gardner and Lowrie streets, Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Alicia George said.
Investigators believe that a man dressed in a Santa suit was trying to lure children into his white van, George said.
Earlier in the day, about 8:30 a.m., three children reported that a man dressed as Santa tried to convince them to get inside a white Hyundai Sonata in the city’s nearby Spring Hill neighborhood, police said.
Police described the suspect in the morning incident as a white man in his 40s with a medium build and a beard.
Officials would not yet say whether the two incidents may be connected. Both incidents are under investigation.
“The investigation is ongoing, and it would be premature at this point to link the two,” George said.
Police asked anyone with information to call 412-323-7800.
