Background: Before moving to Pittsburgh, she worked as an anthropologist. Her projects included elephant monitoring and conservation in Ethiopia and community conservation in Zambia. She previously served as park director for the Mt. Washington CDC.
Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental science from Rutgers University; master's degree in nature conservation from University College London, England; doctorate in anthropology from Binghamton University in New York
