Pitt and Penn State to accept Common App

A tree of books This collection of books designed in the form of a Christmas tree could be found in the classroom of Jenna Hixson at Southmoreland High School. Hixson said she saw a Christmas tree made out of books on the Internet and thought it a good idea to decorate her classroom. The books were donated by the students and will be given to a homeless shelter.

Life just got easier for high school students weighing both the University of Pittsburgh and Penn State.

The two Pennsylvania public research universities will now accept the Common App, a single college application accepted by more than 800 colleges and universities across the country. Pitt, Penn State and Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania were among new Common App member schools listed in a release from the Education Writers Association.

Students who opt to go the single application route can beginning planning early through the Common App site , which includes school profiled and financial aid information.

Pitt and Penn State join Carnegie Mellon, Chatham, Robert Morris and Seton Hill universities as well as Washington & Jefferson, LaRoche and St. Vincent colleges on the roster of local schools that accept the Common App.
