Latrobe outdoorsman blazed new trails
When Kevin Seremet went into the woods, he went as far off the beaten path as he could go.
“He always said he wanted to step on land that no other man had ever stepped on before,” said his brother, Kenneth Seremet.
Kevin Seremet was always happiest outside. He gardened, hunted, fished, hiked, raced motorbikes and took his bicycle on 50-mile rides.
“Whether it was fishing, hunting, or even just being outside in the outdoors, seeing nature in general was really important to him,” Kenneth Seremet said.
Kevin Seremet of Latrobe died Thursday, May 2, 2019 of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. He was 51.
He was born Jan. 1, 1968 in Latrobe to the late John K. “Johnny Simms” Seremet and Patricia A. Treskovich Seremet.
He was one of 10 siblings, and the large family was always tight-knit.
His grandfather and older brothers taught him his love of the outdoors, according to his sister, Patricia A. Sherback.
“We loved family gatherings, especially the holidays,” Sherback said.
Mr. Seremet worked for City Brewing Co. and Latrobe Brewing Co.
As a kid he watched motocross races and collected the jerseys of his favorite riders. When he got older, he raced motocross.
He also enjoyed long bicycle rides.
“If he was on two wheels, and out in nature, on a good sunny day, he was in heaven,” Kenneth said.
He was a keen gardener. Plants that wilted under other’s care would thrive when Mr. Seremet tended to them.
“He would always go to my other brother’s home, and mine, and helped us plant,” said his sister, Deborah Bertig. “He really did have a green thumb.”
He was quick to lend a helping hand.
“He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone,” Sherback said.
His family knew they could count on him.
“He was always the first to pitch in,” Bertig said. “It was always: ‘what do you need, I’m on my way.’ ”
In addition to his parents, Mr. Seremet was preceded in death by a brother, John T. Seremet.
Mr. Seremet is survived by four brothers, Stephen J. Seremet, and his wife Tish, of Greensburg, Patrick J. “Butch” Seremet of Latrobe, James K. Seremet, and his wife Suzette, of Latrobe, and Kenneth V. Seremet, and his wife Lisa, of Latrobe; and four sisters, Beverly A. Skillings of Latrobe, Dianne Seremet of Greensburg, Deborah A. Bertig, and her husband Mark, of Homer City, and Patricia A. Sherback, and her husband Michael Jr., of Latrobe.
