Wuerl to headline St. Vincent College religious seminar
Cardinal Donald Wuerl, who served as bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh before becoming archbishop of Washington, D.C., will headline a religious conference next week in Westmoreland County.
The conference — “The New Evangelization and Higher Education: The Vision of Pope Francis” — will be Monday through Wednesday at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe.
Wuerl, who was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI and oversaw the Pittsburgh diocese from 1988 to 2006, will deliver the conference's opening address.
“The New Evangelization takes on new focus with Pope Francis, and so I hope to explore his impact on the efforts today to engage the modern culture with the Gospel message in an effort to build a truly good and just society,” Wuerl said in a statement.
Other keynote speakers include Dr. Carolyn Woo, president and CEO of Catholic Relief Services, and Bishop Robert Barron, the auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles.
