Unity neighbor helps police nab alleged burglar
An alert neighbor is credited with assisting state troopers in nabbing a burglary suspect at a Unity residence Tuesday.
Judston T. McMunn, 31, of 1483 Route 130 in Unity was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bond on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal attempt after his arrest inside the home along Route 130, about two miles from the suspect's residence.
Police said a neighbor in the village of Pleasant Unity noticed a stranger knocking on the alleged victim's door Tuesday morning. Later, the neighbor saw the suspect walk to the back of the home and then heard glass breaking.
The neighbor called police, who found McMunn hiding in a bedroom closet, Trooper Steve Limani said.
The homeowner was not at home at the time of the incident, which occurred about 10:30 a.m.
Limani warned area residents that police notice a spike in daylight burglaries once the school year begins.
“With kids not at home anymore, the homes are targeted when burglars notice there is no longer a car parked in the driveway,” Limani said.
Limani said police are investigating whether McMunn may be involved in other similar burglaries in the area. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-832-3288.
