Right on race
To Salena Zito: I read your column “Approach race one person at a time” on the RealClearPolitics website. It's beautiful and your experience is similar to my family's. Your dad had the same good approach that mine had in the '60s in South Philadelphia. We did not have any blacks in our immediate blue-collar neighborhood but we welcomed many as friends into our home, even during tense times.
The headline is my own personal philosophy on race relations and, believe me, I'm no liberal! Liberals should practice what they preach about race, diversity, etc. Thanks. You make perfect sense.
By the way, it is “gravy” if it has meat slow-cooked for hours in the Southern Italian tradition, and I refuse to call it “sauce”! (“Gravy” is the loose translation of the Italian expression “ragu,” but not to be confused with that sacrilegious stuff sold in a jar.) That wheat substance you pour gravy over, that's called “macaroni” or “spaghetti,” not “pasta” (except when referring to pasta faggiola or peas). Only yuppies don't know that! LOL!
