A-K Valley campus clippings: Kuhn ties Slippery Rock sacks record
Chad Kuhn put himself on the same page as one of Slippery Rock’s greatest defensive players Saturday.
The redshirt sophomore, a Kiski Area graduate, tied Marcus Martin’s record for single-game sacks by getting 4 1/2 in The Rock’s 57-10 rout of Millersville. He was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West’s Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Martin, a three-time PSAC West defensive player of the year and 2018 Slippery Rock graduate, holds the single-season and career sack records but now shares the game mark with Kuhn, a quarterback in high school.
Kuhn finished with six tackles and a forced fumble against Millersville. He had one career sack before the game.
Junior Jake Chapla (Plum) kicked field goals of 33 and 50 yards in the win and was named PSAC West Special Teams Athlete of the Week.
Cal (Pa.): Redshirt sophomore Tyson Hill (Valley) caught three passes for 97 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown, in a 57-14 win over Shippensburg.
Case Western Reserve: Junior Patrick Crossey (Plum) finished with seven tackles and intercepted a pass, returning it 14 yards, as the Spartans beat Grove City, 49-23, Saturday.
Pitt: Redshirt senior Quintin Wirginis (Fox Chapel) had seven tackles and a sack as the Panthers beat Georgia Tech, 24-19, in their ACC opener Saturday.
Washington & Jefferson : Sophomore Max Garda (Burrell) had eight tackles and two pass breakups as the Presidents beat Carnegie Mellon, 36-14, on Saturday.
Washington & Jefferson : Freshman Faith Remich (Burrell) finished in 38th place with a time of 21 minutes, 8 seconds at the Allegheny Classic in Meadville.
Grove City : Junior Tim Collins (Kiski Area) tied for 48th place at the Carnegie Mellon Fall Invitational, carding a 15-over-par 155 at The Links at Spring Church.
Penn State Behrend : Senior Dakota Lange (Kiski Area) scored a goal and assisted on another as the Lions defeated Allegheny, 2-0, on Saturday.
Thiel : Senior Jess Kelley (Freeport) recorded a team-high 15 kills in a 3-1 victory over Chatham on Saturday, while freshman Courtney Grubbs (Freeport) dished out 48 assists. Kelley added nine kills and Grubbs 30 assists in a 3-0 victory over St. Vincent.
