Tip of the week
The availability of food drives a lot of wildlife activity throughout the year. But that’s especially true now, with autumn here. So if you want to see wildlife, for hunting purposes or just wildlife viewing, go where the food is. Look for hard “mast” crops, like acorns, walnuts and hickory nuts, as well as soft mast crops like apples and berries. Mature agricultural fields draw wildlife, too, especially at dawn and dusk.
Recipe of the week
• 11/2 pounds red potatoes, cut into chunks
• 1 large onion
• 4 tablespoons butter
• 1 tablespoon minced garlic
• 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
• CanCooker Creole seasoning
Probably everyone who’s ever cooked over a campfire has made baked potatoes at one time or another. And with good reason. They’re easy and taste good.
But if you want to try something a little different — that still involves little preparation and little cleanup but leads to a good meal — try this.
Add butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and onions to your CanCooker Jr. Saute on low heat until onions are translucent.
Stir in potatoes and season with Creole seasoning. Latch the lid and cook it all for another 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat, let stand five minutes, then serve.
