High school roundup: Monessen holds off Riverview in Eastern Conference

Monessen scored the first 29 points in a WPIAL Class A Eastern Conference game at Riverview on Saturday, but had to withstand a furious second-half Raiders rally for a 35-26 victory.

Monessen (1-1, 1-1) was led by Noah Rullo, who passed for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Lavelle Rush had five catches for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Riverview (0-2, 0-2) was led by Tyler Nigro, who passed for 172 yards. Raymar McCombs scored on a 54-yard pass and a 35-yard fumble return.

Avella 33, California 24 — Avella (1-1, 1-1) opened a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and held on for a Class A Tri-County South victory in a game that was postponed Friday night when the officials didn't show up.

Neshannock 33, Shenango 0 — Frank Antuono threw for 108 yards and two touchdowns and added a 1-yard scoring run to help No. 3 Neshannock (2-0, 2-0) to a Class A Big 7 Conference win. Robert Lindsey added a 2-yard touchdown run, and Rocco Fazio had a 95-yard fumble return for a score.

Boys soccer

Kiski Area 3, Mt. Pleasant 1 — Dakota Lange scored twice to lead Kiski Area (2-2) to a nonsection win against Mt. Pleasant (1-2).

Vincentian 1, Mercyhurst Prep 0 — Patrick Banze's goal 15 minutes into the second half lifted Vincentian (3-0) to victory in nonsection play.

Penn-Trafford 3, Penn Hills 0 — Galen Kruetzberger scored twice to lead Penn-Trafford (2-0) to the shutout over Penn Hills (1-3).

Girls soccer

Fox Chapel 8, Woodland Hills 0 — Deena Debaldo scored three goals as Fox Chapel (3-0, 2-0) blanked Woodland Hills (0-2, 0-1) in Section 3-AAA play.

CentralValley4,Blackhawk0 — Samantha Fields scored twice to lead Central Valley (2-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-AA shutout over Blackhawk (1-3, 0-3).

Chartiers Valley 1, South Fayette 0 — Kelly Ryan scored the game's only goal as Chartiers Valley (2-1-2) blanked South Fayette (3-2) in a nonsection game.

Pine-Richland 4, Mt. Lebanon 0 — Sami Kelly and Amanda Kalin each scored twice as Pine-Richland (4-1, 1-1) shut out Mt. Lebanon (2-2-1) in nonsection play.
