Morgan Ryan struck out 13 batters and didn't allow a hit as Class AAAA No. 1 Hempfield earned a 4-0 win over Albert Gallatin in a Section 1 softball game Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor Blevins tripled and homered for the Spartans (3-0, 3-0), who have outscored opponents 21-2 this season.

Latrobe 6, Penn-Trafford 1 — Meredith Carr threw a five-hitter as Latrobe (4-1, 3-0) earned a Section 1-AAAA victory.

Belle Vernon 9, Trinity 5 — In Section 3-AAA, Kourtney Gavatorta had three RBIs and Megan Christner and Lexie Church each had two RBIs as No. 1 Belle Vernon (5-3, 2-1) earned a win.

Greensburg Salem 4, Uniontown 0 — Freshman Rena Caruso threw a two-hitter with four strikeouts as Greensburg Salem (3-2, 2-1) won in Section 4-AAA. Sydney Tressler, Megan Kallock and Lauren McLaughlin all had a double for the Golden Lions.

Southmoreland 12, Derry 6 — Olivia Porter went 3 for 3 and Addy Nicholson and Kylee Wisilosky each homered as Southmoreland (4-0, 3-0) won a Section 4-AAA game. Morgan Kelly was 3 for 3 with a double for Derry (1-3, 1-2).

Yough 11, Mt. Pleasant 1 — In Section 4-AAA, Allie Harvey was 3 for 5 with three RBIs to guide No. 3 Yough (5-0, 2-0) to victory. Macy Mularski allowed two hits and struck out 10 to earn the win.

Bentworth 5, Beth-Center 1 — Micaela Danley was 4 for 4, including a three-run inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning, as Bentworth (1-0, 1-0) won in Section 2-AA.

Frazier 17, Jeannette 0 (4 inn.) — Kelsey Holp homered and Kara Mastowski tossed a two-hitter as No. 3 Frazier (3-0, 2-0) won in Section 2-A.

Monessen 12, Greensburg C.C. 0 — Dana Vatakis threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Monessen (5-1, 2-0) won in Section 2-A.

Ligonier Valley 15, Homer-Center 1 (5 inn.) — Abigail Turcheck was 3 for 3 with a triple and five RBIs as Ligonier Valley (3-1, 3-0) won a District 6 Heritage Conference game.

Baseball

Hempfield 11, Armstrong 0 (6 inn.) — Justin Wright allowed two hits and had four strikeouts as Hempfield (3-3, 1-0) won in Section 2-AAAA. Charlie Varriano had three hits for the Spartans.

Latrobe 3, Albert Gallatin 2 — Mason Petrosky smacked a walk-off single to score Zach Kokoska as Latrobe (5-1, 2-0) won a Section 1-AAAA game. Jared Kollar, Kokoska, Petrosky and Ryan Shawley all had two hits. Tyler Kuhns tossed three scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts to earn the win.

Norwin 7, Connellsville 0 — Chad Coles allowed two hits and struck out seven batters in five innings as Norwin (4-2, 1-0) won in Section 2-AAAA.

Blackhawk 3, Derry 0 — Sophomore Andy McClymonds tossed a no-hitter in his first varsity start as Blackhawk (2-2) won a nonsection game. He struck out seven and had three walks.

Springdale 11, Jeannette 7 — Tyler Robbins hit a solo home run and picked up the win as Springdale won in nonsection play. Zach Simcic also hit a solo home run for Springdale (3-3). Brendt Billeck doubled and drove in three runs for Jeannette (1-2).
