Pittsburgh Penguins reveal their third jerseys
Three is a magic number. And a really yellow one, too.
The Pittsburgh Penguins unveiled their third team jersey Tuesday, and response from fans seems to be mixed.
The team said the new "thirds" — which features a gold background with black sleeves and white and gold striping — was created by adidas.
One thing missing from the logo — the Pittsburgh-ish Golden Triangle that normally sits behind the penguin.
The thread that binds us. The colors that unite us.We are Pittsburgh and we bleed black and gold.Let us introduce our third jerseys. #BurghProud Details: https://t.co/Pr0HapFRCN pic.twitter.com/m8zqE98Yn9— Pittsburgh Penguins (@penguins) October 9, 2018
They will be worn by players on the Thursday, Nov. 15 game at PPG Paints Arena against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The team will also don gold helmets for that game.
They are set to go on sale that day exclusively at PensGear stores until Nov. 19. After that, they'll be released to DICK'S Sporting Goods, shop.nhl.com, and adidas.com.
"Creating a signature look for these new thirds, the crest spotlights the standalone skating penguin on a single-toned gold sweater," said an adidas spokesperson. "Mixing the past with the present, the contrasting black sleeves are highlighted with white and gold striping that are inspired from the Penguins' 1984 jerseys, while the letters and numbering mirror the current home and away jerseys. Additional design details include the sleeve numbers being raised to the shoulder of the jersey to mimic the 1980s look."
The Penguins will wear the jerseys 12 times this season — all at PPG Paints Arena — and each time with the gold helmets.

That's what took so long? Pretty much an identical jersey to the outdoor game. Disappointed. pic.twitter.com/hkXAkgBsBE— Chris (@CARpims8690) October 9, 2018
