Image of Pirates-Reds brawl draws comparison to artwork
An image from Sunday’s brawl between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds has gotten the attention of the web and gone viral.
The screengrab from the broadcast shows Reds slugger Yasiel Piug appearing to take on the entire Pirates team.
Tempers got hot after Pirates starter Chris Archer threw the ball behind Derek Dietrich and into the backstop in the fourth inning. (This came after Dietrich admired his earlier home run a little too long.)
Reds manager David Bell came out of the dugout to argue with the home plate umpire about the pitch. He was soon followed by Piug and others, which immediately sent the all the Bucs, including everyone in the bullpen, to protect their pitcher and let the teams sort it out on the infield.
But the screengrab itself was striking in its composition and seeming use color. Some felt the image had the qualities of an Renaissance painting. Cut4, MLB’s trendy website, tweeted the image calling for it to be hung in the Louvre.

Another person gave it an artistic makeover:

Some appreciated the image itself but added a humorous commentary. One said it reminded them of mustard and ketchup bottles.

With “Game of Thrones” series finale coming up next weekend, it was on some people’s mind:
I’m sure many of you saw the pictures/videos of the Reds-Pirates brawl and I’m sure many of you thought of Jon Snow when you saw the picture of Yasiel Puig trying to take on all of the Pirates. #Basebrawl #GOT pic.twitter.com/49GzWaQhwH

While others drew the comparison to the upcoming “Avengers” movie:

In the end the Pirates held on and beat the Reds 7-5 to complete a four-game sweep.
