Police nab suspect in Bloomfield restaurant robbery
Police arrested a North Side man this morning on charges of robbing a popular Bloomfield restaurant.
Brett Richards, 24, is accused of entering Ritter's Diner on Baum Boulevard about 1 a.m. and demanding money. Police said Richards wore a white ski mask and pointed a silver pistol at the diner's owner, who ran into the kitchen and told employees to call 911.
Richards grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from the register and took a $20 bill from a customer, police said. No one was injured during the robbery, although some customers were knocked down during the commotion, police said.
Police officers were driving by the restaurant when they witnessed a masked man run out brandishing a weapon. Richards was arrested after a brief chase ended a block away in the Car Quest parking lot, police said.
The weapon was determined to be a pellet gun, police said.
Richards is charged with robbery, simple assault, aggravated assault and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Allegheny County Jail. Police are investigating whether two other individuals were involved in the robbery.
