Wilkinsburg man sues Forest Hills police over Tasering
A Wilkinsburg man today sued the Forest Hills Police Department and two officers he accused of unlawfully Tasering him during a 2007 traffic stop.
Dwight Leonard Watson Jr., 37, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court, Downtown, against the department and officers Brian K. Armstrong and Sheldon Summers.
The police department declined to comment.
According to the lawsuit, the officers stopped Watson about 2 a.m. in May 2007 as he was driving a Dodge Stratus along Ardmore Boulevard. Armstrong is accused of twice using a Taser X26 on Watson, knocking him to the pavement.
The officers arrested Watson and charged him with resisting arrest, simple assault, public drunkeness and disorderly conduct. Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Gerald Bigley later dismissed the charges, the lawsuit states.
Watson claims the officers used excessive force and that the department failed to properly train its employees to use a Taser.
The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount in damages.
