Italy, by way of New York City
Pizza and other Italian specialties are hot and fresh at the newly opened New York Pizza and Pasta in the Widewaters Commons shopping plaza in Connellsville.
Bringing his authentic Italian recipes and reputation for good food to Connellsville is owner John Schiano, of Uniontown, who has operated his New York Style Pizza and Pasta in Uniontown for the past 13 years.
"This is a good location," said Schiano. "It was a good deal to come here, so I thought that I would take a chance."
New York Pizza and Pasta offers an array of foods, covering old Italian favorites and new American cuisine.
Selections on the menu include a wide variety of both hot and cold subs, Philly steak sandwiches, hamburgers, and many different varieties of pizza.
Authentic Italian dishes include chicken Alfredo, chicken Marsala, sausage and peppers, and veal, chicken and eggplant Parmigiana. There are also pasta dishes featuring gnocchi, fettuccine, manicotti, ravioli and lasagna.
Rounding out the menu are soups and salads, a children's menu and a wide choice of combination selections -- for those who like to mix up their options and try a bit of everything.
"Business has been good," Schiano said.
Schiano prides his cuisine on its freshness and authenticity.
"Everything is made here, and we use 100 percent mozzarella cheese," Schiano said. "We don't use no junk or imitations. We bread our own chicken and our own veal and we hand toss all our pizza from dough that we make fresh every day."
Specials are offered at both lunch and dinner time, and everything on the menu, including the specials, may be ordered for take-out.
The dining room area seats 88 customers.
So with all of the choices of pizza in the area, why stop at New York Pizza and Pasta?
"Why not?" Schiano said. "Number one, we use 100 percent mozzarella. Number two, we don't use pizza sauce, we use fresh plum tomatoes imported from Italy. And number three, we use fresh basil daily. Everything is fresh and good."
