Elementary wrestlers shine at area tournaments
The Connellsville elementary first- and second-year wrestlers brought home numerous medals recently, including a third-place team trophy from the Waynesburg Tournament. Hunter Detwiler (70 pounds) took first in the 10 and Under bracket at Waynesburg, with Cody Nicholson (50) getting a top prize in the 8 and Under division and J.T. Shipley (60) coming in first among the 6 and Under group. Aaron Farris (55-60) was second in the 10 and Under division, and James Lint (unlimited) was third in that bracket. Alex Knopsnider (70) was third in the 8 and Under group.
Rockwood Novice Tournament
Luke Bruner (50) nabbed a first in the 6 and Under bracket, and Timmy Baysinger and Kyle Burkholder were third. Nicholson and Knopsnider earned thirds in the 8 and Under group, and Collin Wiltrout (65) got a fourth in that bracket. In the 11- and 12-year-old division, Sheldon Wissler (100) was second, with Heath Richards (100) placing third and Shelby Wissler (90) bringing home a fourth.
Southmoreland Open Tournament
Shipley picked up another first in the 6 and Under bracket, and Sumner Hartz (50) was close behind with a second.
Punxsutawney Open Tournament
Nicholson scored another first in the 8 and Under division.
West Greene Open Tournament
T.J. Mullen (60) snagged a third place in the 10 and Under group.
Southern Mat Club Open Tournament
Nick Beneke (70) won a first in the 12 and Under bracket, and Tanner Wiltrout (80) earned a second. Daniel Leonard (50) and Tyler Steele (75) came in second in the 9- and 10-year-old group, with Robby Hardy (65), Garrett Brooks (70) and Matt Butler (80) all taking third. Leonard also competed in the 8 and Under division, winning first place, and Bryce Butler (60) scored a second. William Bell (60) got a fourth in that group. Burkholder was third among the 6 and Under crowd, with Nico DiAlesandro (40) and J.J. Matthews (45) each nabbing a fourth.
Jesse Swink (98) brought back a first in the Junior High division, and Ryan Williams (83) placed second.
Trinity Open Tournament
Knopsnider secured the top spot in the 8 and Under group.
Wes Banco Tournament
Williams garnered a first place in the Junior High division, and Wiltrout got the same prize in the 12 and Under bracket. Matt Butler and Dru Barr (115) each took second in the 10 and Under group, and Brooks placed third. In the 8 and Under competition, Bell got a second and Bryce Butler came in third.
