Dunbar, Connellsville All-Stars advance
Frankie Thorpe and Jacob Uhazie each had three singles to help the Dunbar 11- and 12-year-old All-Star team advance in the winner's bracket with a 5-4 win in seven innings over host Luzerne in District 9 action Monday.
Ian Edenfield singled twice and drove in two runs, and Travis Sankovich had two singles to go along with two runs scored. Winning pitcher Louden Conte had six strikeouts for Dunbar (1-0).
Dunbar will play Friday at Rostraver.
Jordan Eicher and Zack Colgan each homered for Luzerne (1-1). Blake Paul took the loss.
Luzerne drops to the loser's bracket and will play Wednesday at Connellsville.
» Connellsville 3, Yough 2 -- Shane Mancuso, Brody Bonadio and Seth Haggerty each singled and scored in the fourth inning, as the Connellsville 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars stayed alive in District 9 action.
Jake Tzan pitched a complete game, and Brandon Butela, Alec Detwiler and Haggerty each made strong defensive plays for Connellsville (1-1), which will host Luzerne on Wednesday.
Nathaniel Roebuk took the loss for Yough, which was eliminated from the tournament.
» Rostraver 5, Mt. Pleasant 2 -- Tim Labuda hit a two-run home run, as the Rostraver 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars rallied in District 9 play.
Jake Callaway was the winning pitcher for Rostraver (2-0), which will host Dunbar on Friday.
Jacob Chovanec had an RBI single, and losing pitcher Max Pritts also had a single for Mt. Pleasant (1-1), which will host Bullskin in a loser's bracket game Wednesday.
» Connellsville 16, Carmichaels 8 -- Colvin Adey had four hits, including a double, and scored four runs to lead Connellsville (6-6).
Tyler Geary had two singles and scored a pair of runs, and Cameron Bernhardt doubled and singled. Matt White came on in relief of Bernhardt and earned the win.
Connellsville has a makeup game scheduled at home against California on Wednesday.
Brandon Kuzich took the loss for Carmichaels.
