County will air condition Belmont
EAST FRANKLIN —The Belmont Ice Skating Complex is getting air conditioning.
At their public meeting Thursday the county commissioners awarded a contract in the amount of $143,390 to D&G Mechanical of West Middlesex to do the project. D&G was the lowest of three firms bidding.
Payment for the project comes from a $40,000 state grant secured by state Sen. Don White, R-41st, and the remainder from capital improvement and contingency funds.
"We came to the realization that if we use the facility in the summer then we have to have air conditioning in an ice arena," said Commissioner Jim Scahill.
Scahill said the county wants to make the Belmont Arena a year-round fully-used facility.
The work is scheduled to be completed by July 18 in time for the annual ArmTech Show in August.
In addition to the air conditioning work, an above ground gas line will be installed underground and a $10,000 public address system from state money through White will be completed soon at the Belmont.
