Man faces theft, drug charges
FORD CITY -- A Verona man was arrested by borough police in the early morning hours of Tuesday and charged in connection with the theft of a stolen vehicle and money taken from vending machines.
Police arrested Justin J. May, 30, of Verona at 1:26 a.m. Tuesday, charging him with criminal attempt, receiving stolen property, possession of instruments of crime, criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking and possession of suspected drug paraphernalia.
Police said May was driving a 1984 Chevrolet pickup truck that had been reported stolen from the Verona area a few days earlier.
Borough policemen Timothy Berasi and Frank Pitzer said they saw the truck parked in the 800 block of Fourth Avenue with the door open. When they looked into the vehicle they found May inside with a crowbar in his hand and a coin box allegedly taken from a nearby soft drink machine, they said.
Police said they also found a second coin box, allegedly taken from a soft drink machine in the 300 block of Fourth Avenue, and found an undisclosed amount of suspected illicit drugs.
May was committed to the Armstrong County Jail by District Justice Michael Gerheim and held on $15,000 bond.
