Southwest Bank names Hanna president
Southwest Bank announced the appointment Friday of David M. Hanna, a veteran banking executive with the company, as its president.
The move, approved by the bank's board of directors, is effective immediately.
Hanna, 54, who has been executive vice president with Southwest National, is assuming one of the posts held by David S. Dahlmann, who will remain chairman and chief executive officer until completion of the previously announced merger of the operations of Southwest into Indiana-based First Commonwealth Bank, which is expected in mid-October.
At that time, Southwest is to become the southwest region for First Commonwealth under Hanna's leadership.
Dahlmann, whose banking career spans 31 years, will remain as chairman and chief executive of Southwest until the merger takes place.
In addition, he will continue to serve as vice chairman of First Commonwealth Financial Corp., the parent company of First Commonwealth Bank and Southwest, until the end of the year.
At that time, he plans to retire from his active banking career, although he will remain a member of the board of First Commonwealth, which acquired Southwest National's parent company in 1999.
First Commonwealth announced in April it planned to merge the charters of its Southwest and First Commonwealth Bank subsidiaries and consolidate all banking operations under First Commonwealth Bank.
"As I step away, I know that Mr. Hanna has a very strong team and that the merger will consummate the process that we began over three years ago when Southwest joined the First Commonwealth organization," Dahlmann said in a statement. "You will continue to see an expansion and enrichment of services from First Commonwealth."
Hanna, who has spent 30 years with Southwest, most recently has been executive vice president, heading up the retail and corporate growth units at the bank. He previously served in various management roles in the branches and in consumer and commercial lending.
First Commonwealth is Indiana County's largest banking company, operating 90 offices in 17 counties, including Allegheny and Westmoreland. Southwest Bank is Westmoreland's largest bank with 16 offices in both counties.
