PPG Pittsburgh Paints goes for Guinness record for largest swatch
Pittsburgh is getting to become the City of World Records.
PPG Pittsburgh Paints will display what was designed as the world's largest paint swatch Friday at Market Square, Downtown. There will be an adjudicator there from the Guinness Book of World Records to record the effort.
Dee Schlotter, brand manager from PPG Pittsburgh Paints, says the swatch is 4 feet wide by 17 feet long and designed with seven shades of green like the usual, tiny swatch.
No record for the largest paint swatch now exists, she says.
The swatch will be on display from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the adjudication will be about 12:30 p.m.
Schlotter says the effort is part of PPG's recognition of the spring painting season.
This is less than a year after the record for the largest raft of canoes and kayaks was set at the Point on June 5, 2010. That event, called "Paddle at the Point," featured 1,619 boats gathering in an attempt to set the record as part of World Environment Day.
The Pittsburgh World Environment Day Partnership announced the canoe-kayak certification Tuesday.
