Crash kills Clairton driver who fled from Jefferson Hills police
Police are investigating a crash that killed a driver who fled from Jefferson Hills police early today, authorities said. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office identified the driver as Peter Gribschaw, 30, of Clairton.
Around 2:15 a.m., an officer traveling south on Route 885 saw a vehicle cross into the southbound lane, then go partially off the road before the driver regained control, according to a statement from Jefferson Hills police Chief Gene Roach.
The car turned onto Miller Road. When the officer turned on his emergency lights, the other car accelerated "at a high rate of speed," the statement said.
The officer lost sight of the vehicle but one mile later found it overturned against an embankment along the road, the statement said. Gribschaw was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The Allegheny County Police homicide unit is investigating.
