Council to have special meeting
Penn Hills council will meet in special session tonight at 7:30 to consider two recommendations from the municipal planning commission, including one involving an expansion of the proposed townhouse development off of Verona and Rock Cliff roads.
The planning commission has endorsed a proposal from the Pelone Land Co. to convert a section of land zoned Conservation district to R-5 multi-family for town house use.
Last summer, council approved the rezoning of a larger section of adjacent property which actually restricted the zoning from a previous classification that would have allowed a high-rise apartment building.
This proposal still was met with opposition from some of the residents in the Shannon Heights housing plan, although many signed a petition that laid out specific guidelines for the developer to follow, including:
The developer and contractor already have agreed to those terms, although he pointed out that if all of the units cannot be sold, the remainder will have to be rented out.
Also on the agenda tonight is a request from Venetta Greenhowe for a conditional use permit to open an after-school day care center in the former McCabe Funeral Home at Frankstown Road and Hochsberg Avenue. The planning commission has recommended approval and to date there has been no opposition to the request.
