Park-and-ride lot opens
Port Authority of Allegheny County opened its newest park-and-ride lot Monday morning in Moon Township.
The lot, served by six buses on two routes, had 51 cars parked in it yesterday, according to Port Authority estimates. A permanent stoplight will be installed next month in the lot at one of the busiest roads in Moon Township. The 600-space lot brings to 9,500 the total number of parking spaces in the authority's 51 park-and-ride lots countywide.
Additional land at the site of the former Airways parking site has been set aside for future business development, and Delta Development Group will present a final plan to township officials for redevelopment of the corridor, formerly hotels and parking lots serving the old Greater Pittsburgh Airport in Moon Township.
The Port Authority could add an additional 400 spaces to the lot, making available a total of 1,000 spaces.
The lot was built as part of the West Busway project.
