Music returns to city park
Music once again will fill the air on Monday evenings in downtown Uniontown as the Storey Square Summer Concert series returns for its 14th year.
Beginning June 4 and continuing through Aug. 27, the 13 weeks of music and great food will include new activities this year.
The concerts, sponsored by the Uniontown District Business Authority, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Storey Square.
"We are adding a farmers market and we will also have local crafters coming weekly," said Judy Vrabel, executive director of the business district authority. "We will be blocking off the streets so the farmers can have their booths right by Storey Square."
The section of Main Street between Gallatin Avenue and Beeson Boulevard will be closed.
This will be the first year that the authority will be playing host to the farmers market, which has received lackluster response in the past.
"We have a captive audience of about 400 for the music, so we figured why not have the farmers market at the same time?" Vrabel said.
In addition to entertainment and the open market area, one restaurant a week will offer food in the square.
"We had a nice turnout last year, and we are pleased that people were able to enjoy themselves," said Gary Gearing, vice chairman of the authority. "We'd like to bring even more people to the downtown area to enjoy the revitalization that is going on."
The music series is free, and those attending may wish to bring a chair or a blanket. There also will be free parking available.
"Last year was great," said Mark Rafail, chairman of the authority. "It's great to see it growing every year. We hope to see more people from all over the county join us this year and see how wonderful downtown Uniontown really is."
"We still need farmers and other people who wish to sell their vegetables, plants or anything that is homegrown," Vrabel said, adding that local crafters also may contact the office for information on displaying their wares.
