Nicholson Township couple face charges after tot found outside
A Fayette County man and woman face criminal charges after their 1-year-old child was found wandering outside while wearing only a diaper, police said.
State police at Uniontown said they were notified by an unidentified person at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday that the child was found alone outside on Mark Drive in the Outcrop area of Nicholson Township.
Police said they knocked at the apartment door of the child's parents, Jamie Michels, 22, and Donald Darnell, 26, for 15 minutes before either answered.
The two had been sleeping, according to police.
Police said they discovered that a 5-year-old sibling of the toddler also had wandered from the apartment at 100 Mark Drive and had been taken in by an unidentified neighbor.
Neither child had injuries. Police said caseworkers from Children and Youth Services removed both children from the home.
Police said the parents will be charged with endangering the welfare of children, but neither had been charged as of Wednesday.
