Thieves use company truck to steel copper from Dunbar
State police at Uniontown are seeking the public's help with a bold burglary and copper theft over the weekend at a Dunbar Township scrap yard.
Police said the burglars cut through the steel siding to enter Special T Metals along Morrell Avenue, just outside Connellsville. The thieves took about 5,000 pounds of scrap copper and used the company's equipment to load it onto a company-owned pickup.
The burglars left in the 1997 Dodge Ram truck filled with copper scrap. Police estimated the value of the stolen truck and copper at $21,350.
"We've had some thefts, but nothing like this before," said an employee of the firm, who declined to give his name. "I'd like to catch the person before police get hold of him. ... They even used our tow motor to lift two 4-by-4 skids (of copper scrap) into the truck."
The theft occurred between noon Saturday and 7 a.m. Monday.
