Burglary arrest made
An Indiana County man faces a preliminary hearing next week on allegations that he took tools during a break-in at the county fire academy.
Gregory D. Baker, 39, of Black Lick, is scheduled to appear Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Susanne Steffee, of Homer City, on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and institutional vandalism.
State police at Indiana allege that sometime Friday or Saturday, Baker took hand and power tools from the fire academy in Center Township. He also is charged with damaging doors and windows.
Baker was caught trying to sell items taken during the burglary at an area resale shop, according to police. He admitted his involvement in a written confession, they said.
Academy officials were continuing to determine yesterday exactly what was taken.
"We don't have a complete list yet. Because of the amount of equipment, it's hard to tell what's there and not there," said Tom Stutzman, fire academy director.
"There are three windows that need to be replaced and some access doors to three different buildings."
Court documents list the value of the stolen tools at a minimum of $600 and the damage at $500.
After his arraignment, Baker was jailed in lieu of $2,500 bail.
