Cab driver shot in robbery attempt
A Beaver County cab driver was treated and released from the hospital after being shot in the head during a robbery attempt Thursday, Aliquippa police said.
David Hughes, 34, of Freedom, was driving an S.O.S. taxi service cab along Spring Street when two men got into the back of the cab at 1:40 p.m. yesterday, Aliquippa police Sgt. Don Couch said.
One of the men pulled a gun, stuck it against Hughes' head and demanded his money and the cab, Couch said.
When Hughes turned to give the men his money, he grabbed the barrel of the gun, and the weapon discharged, Couch said.
Police soon caught one of the suspects, Louis Richardson, 17, of Aliquippa, running through a nearby wooded area, Couch said.
Richardson, believed to be the gunman, was awaiting arraignment last night on charges of attempted homicide, robbery, reckless endangerment and various firearms violations, Couch said.
Although the second man escaped, Couch said police believe they know who he is and will obtain a warrant for his arrest.
