Meadows hiring for April 15 casino grand opening
The Meadows Racetrack & Casino is hiring 250 people in preparation for the grand opening of its permanent casino, scheduled for April 15 at 10 a.m.
The opening comes two days after the casino's 6-hour, invitation-only test day. If anything goes wrong with the test, the opening could be rescheduled, according to a statement released by The Meadows. Proceeds from the 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. test will be donated to local volunteer fire departments.
A temporary casino has been operating at the North Strabane site since June 2007 with about 1,800 slot machines. The permanent casino will hold more than twice as many.
The permanent facility cost $175 million to build, will employ about 1,000 people and, at 350,000 square feet, is one of the largest on the East Coast, according to a statement released by spokesman David La Torre.
In addition to the slot machines, it will have eight restaurants and integrate the harness-racing track and betting area. A "boutique bowling alley" is set to open in August.
