New Castle resident tried to hire hit man: police
A Lawrence County man has been charged with attempted homicide and related crimes after police said he used drugs to buy a gun and hire a man to help him kill three people, state Attorney General Tom Corbett said Wednesday.
Leslie Richard Ransom, 50, of New Castle was arrested by state agents Tuesday after he purchased the gun from a confidential informant he hired to help him kill three people and dump their bodies in a secluded area of Moraine State Park, Corbett said.
According to the criminal complaint, Ransom told the informant that the people had robbed him, causing him to be late in paying his bills, and that one of the people held his son on the ground and put a gun to his head.
Ransom also told the informant that after a previous robbery, he torched a house of the suspected robber and watched the occupants flee the burning home. He said he also hired someone to beat up the suspected robber the next day. There is no indication that charges were filed in that incident.
