Briefs: Mt. Pleasant street fair set

The Mt. Pleasant VFD annual street fair is scheduled for June 23-28 on W. Smithfield Street at the department's social club. June 23 and 26 are one-price ride nights. Fair-goers can ride from 7 to 11 p.m. for just $7. June 25 rides are just 50 cents a ride. The parade is set to begin at 7 p.m. June 24, with units assembling beginning at 6 p.m. at Main and Eagle streets. The entertainment schedule has MIXX playing June 23, Triple Creek on June 25 and Little John's Polka Band on June 27. There will be a free drawing each night at 11 p.m.. Ticket holders must be present to win. For more information, call 724-547-8501.

Amusement park safety tips offered

With summer just around the corner, here are some tips to help ensure a safe time at any amusement park.

  • Look for a sign stating that the ride has been inspected and has passed state regulations.

  • Obey all posted rules and the instructions of ride operators.

  • Observe all age, height and weight requirements.

  • Keep hands, arms and legs inside the ride at all times.

  • Stay in the ride until it comes to a complete stop.

  • Use all safety equipment provided.
