Wife of Westmoreland County judge has car stolen
The wife of Westmoreland County Judge Richard E. McCormick Jr. learned a lesson the hard way early Tuesday morning when her car was stolen from a Greensburg convenience store.
Kathleen McCormick, 53, of 28 Cypress St., Greensburg, left her keys inside her 2002 Honda Accord at 6:12 a.m. when she went inside the Crossroads convenience store at 620 N. Main St., according to city police Capt. George Seranko. The car, with her purse inside, was taken.
Seranko said city police received a report at about 6 p.m. Tuesday that the car had been found at 1100 Valley Club Drive in Penn Township.
Township police Sgt. Michael Shirey said an SNPJ Club employee found McCormick's car parked behind the club when he went to work Tuesday. The club is located off Pleasant Valley Road, near the Valley Landfill.
About 4 1/2 miles from where McCormick's car was abandoned, her purse was recovered in Trafford by a passer-by who spotted it in a large trash receptacle at the 7-Eleven Store, 500 Brinton Ave., borough police Lt. Carmen Disso said. The passer-by took it to the police station, Disso said.
Greensburg police said a small amount of money was missing from the purse. Disso said Greensburg police sent a patrolman to Trafford to recover the purse.
