PennDOT sets weekly road work projects

PennDOT has updated various road projects:

Westmoreland County

  • Utility work continues throughout the $7.26 million Parnassus Triangle project in New Kensington and Lower Burrell. Utility poles, telephone, gas and water lines are being relocated. The contractor is continuing to build the relocated Greensburg Road. Industrial Boulevard is now closed to through traffic from Fifth Avenue to the intersection with Logans Ferry Road. A posted detour is in place. The detour is necessary to construct the new bridge over Little Pucketa Creek. The contractor also is reconstructing this section of Industrial Boulevard. All business entrances will be accessible to traffic. A reduced speed limit is posted. This first of two phases involves Greensburg Road, Industrial Boulevard and Logans Ferry Road and will convert a three-way stop intersection to a signalized intersection.

  • The contractor is continuing to work on the new box culvert structure on the Camp Joann Bridge in Upper Burrell. Traffic will continue to use the temporary run-around and should not expect any major delays. The $750,000 project is for the replacement of the existing bridge on an existing alignment carrying Route 366 over a branch of Pucketa Creek.

  • Beams are being set in the $2.7 million Smithton Bridge project in South Huntingdon Township. Crews also are working on abutment No. 2 and are scheduled to start pouring the deck this week. The project involves the replacement of two bridges over Smithton Run and the elimination of two other bridges by realigning a portion of Dutch Hollow Road.

  • The $861,282 Youghiogheny Street Bridge replacement project is completed. All that remains is the permanent sign installation and removal of the field trailer.

  • Crews are working on Route 981 between Mt. Pleasant and Scottdale in a $4.96 resurfacing of county roads.

  • In another resurfacing project -- one which carries a $2.66 million price tag -- crews will begin base and joint repair this week on Route 711. Traffic will be reduced to one lane. Asphalt work is scheduled beginning Oct 17 on Route 271 in Fairfield Township.

  • A third resurfacing project will begin on state routes 2010 and 2023 in Mt. Pleasant Township. The $4.07 million project also will involve joint repair, base repair and paving on Route 66 in Washington Township.

  • The fourth resurfacing project ($1.76 million) will see work beginning in about a week or two on Craigdell Road and Snively Hill Road in Lower Burrell.

  • Patching will take place on state Route 982 on Weltytown Road in Unity Township, on state Route 4083 on Falcon Park Road in Lower Burrell, on Route 356 on Freeport Bridge in Allegheny Township, state Route 4032 on Merwin Road in Upper Burrell Township and on Upper Drennen Road in Upper Burrell.

  • Shoulder stabilization will take place on Springer Road in Ligonier Township. Shoulder widening is set for Athena Road in Salem Township.

  • Pipe installation/drainage is set for state Route 3041 on Plumber School Road in South Huntingdon Township and on Four Mile Run Road in Ligonier and Cook townships.

  • Crack and joint sealing will take place on Route 31 in Mt. Pleasant and Donegal townships.

  • Base repair is scheduled for state Route 3073 in Chaintown in East Huntingdon Township.

    Fayette County

  • The new Yough Bridge is scheduled to be open to traffic today. Temporary lanes have been established for traffic. Temporary lines will be in place on the deck for traffic until work is complete, at which time permanent lines will be painted. The $25 million project is located in Henry Clay Township, Fayette County, and Addison Township, Somerset County.

  • Drainage work is scheduled along Route 119 and repairs on the Walnut Hill Bridge in South Union Township. Crews also will be performing electrical work for the new signals at the Walnut Hill ramps in the $6.7 million project. The work will require traffic lane switches.

  • The contractor will be working on pavement patching at all cross pipes in the $2.24 million project on Prison Road in Luzerne Township. Asphalt leveling also is expected to take place.

  • Road grading in preparation for future asphalt placement begins on the Georges Creek Bridge in Georges Township. The project is tentatively scheduled to be completed Nov. 7. The $1.48 million project involves the replacement of the existing arch culvert that carries Rubles Mill Road over Georges Creek.

    Indiana County

  • Sign repair and replacement is set for Route 553 from Route 422 to Cambria County.

  • Bridge replacement is on tap for the Rayne Run Bridge at Tanoma Road.

  • Crack sealing is scheduled for Route 286 from Indiana to Clearfield County, Route 422 from Shelocta to Route 553, Route 954 from Route 56 to Route 422 and state Route 4422 from Route 422 to Ben Franklin Road.

  • Pipe trench patching will take place on state Route 3056 in the Edgewood area.

  • Pipe flushing is set for Route 403 from Strongstown to Pineton Road and state Route 4020 on West Creek Road.

  • Pipe replacement is on the agenda for Route 403 from Strongstown to Cameron Bottom Road. Tailditching is planned for state Route 4020 on West Creek Road.

  • Pipe replacement is on tap for state Route 3056 from state Route 3024 to Route 286.

  • Inlet repair is scheduled for Route 403 from Pineton Road to Cameron Bottom Road.

  • Brushing is set for Route 119 at the Indiana Bypass.

  • Shoulder stabilization is planned for Route 553 from Route 422 to Heilwood.
