Penn Township man charged with punching police officer
A Penn Township man was arrested early Sunday on charges he stole a woman's purse and punched a Trafford police officer.
Matthew Sean O'Malley, 27, of 292 Saunders Station Road, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, disarming a law enforcement officer, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, theft and receiving stolen property.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Trafford police, O'Malley stole Amanda Maljan's purse while they were at Parentes Ristorante in the borough.
The criminal complaint states O'Malley was still at the establishment and appeared to be intoxicated when police arrived about 2 a.m.
As Patrolman Scott Farally gathered information on the incident, O'Malley began punching the officer and tried to remove the officer's weapon from its holster and threatened to kill him, authorities said.
The complaint said O'Malley was eventually restrained by Farally and an onlooker who sat on O'Malley's legs.
O'Malley was arraigned in night court before Hempfield District Judge James Falcon. Bond was set at $10,000 unsecured, with the condition O'Malley have no further contact with Maljan.
A preliminary hearing for O'Malley is scheduled for July 10 before Penn Township District Judge Helen Kistler.
