No weapons ban
The March 11 article " Weapons in Latrobe parks targeted " stated that Latrobe council is considering banning firearms within the town's parks. I'd like to make council members and Deputy Mayor Neal Fenton aware of Pennsylvania state statute title 18, subsection 6120, which states:
"No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth."
I also think Mr. Fenton is failing to realize that if people are intent upon committing a crime, such as the targeted vandalism, they will do so regardless of an additional law prohibiting it.
"Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws." Plato recognized this in 400 B.C. Why do some people have such hard time understanding the same reality exists today?
