Friends in high office
Our wonderful senators Arlen Specter (R) and Bob Casey (D) can sure see eye to eye (nonpartisan) when it comes to supporting the less fortunate (Roll Call, "Medicare drug premiums," March 25).
They both just couldn't see increasing the Medicare Prescription Drug program premium for those making over $80,000 individually and couples over $160,000. (Both voted no in the Senate's 44-52 defeat of the bill.)
What a slap in the face to the majority of Pennsylvanians, especially those who are retired or soon will retire with limited pensions. That is, of course, with the exception of the members of the Pennsylvania Legislature and their staff and state authorities, who exceed these levels dramatically.
We are in big trouble, as we have no friends in the Legislature or the federal government. With more egregious examples such as these from Specter and Casey we could soon be wishing for Santorum to return.
