McConnell-Miller to interview for Lady Panthers' post
University of Tulsa coach Kathy McConnell-Miller, a Brookline native, will interview today for the women's basketball head coaching position at Pitt.
McConnell-Miller confirmed Tuesday night she was in town.
McConnell Miller, who is a sister of Minnesota Lynx coach and former Oakland Catholic coach Suzie McConnell-Serio, has been the head coach at the University of Tulsa the past four seasons. The Golden Hurricane were 14-16 and lost to Hawaii in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference tournament this year.
McConnell-Miller also is looking at the vacant women's head coaching job at Syracuse. Marianna Freeman resigned last month. McConnell-Miller was a finalist the last time Pitt was looking for a head coach, but Traci Waites was hired instead. Waites, who had been the Panthers coach the past five years, was fired March 25 after compiling a 53-85 overall record and 20-62 mark in the Big East Conference. McConnell-Miller was an assistant at Pitt under then head coach Kirk Bruce for the 1992-93 and 1991-92 seasons.
McConnell-Miller spent last night having dinner with her family. Her mother, Sue, said the family certainly would love to have her back home.
"That would be great," her brother Mike McConnell said. "I think she would be perfect for the job."
