Mercyhurst center reaches milestone in win

Mercyhurst senior center Shelby Chaney scored his 1,000th career point on a dunk midway through the second half, as Mercyhurst (10-3) defeated Slippery Rock in the nonconference matchup.

Chaney finished the contest with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Slippery Rock (3-9) was paced by Glenn Reepmeyer's 13 points and nine rebounds.

Youngstown State 76, Loyola 71

Keston Roberts had 30 points, while Quin Humprey added 20 points to lead Youngstown State (7-7, 2-1) past Loyola (9-5, 1-1) in the Verizon League.

Wheeling Jesuit 73, Pitt-Johnstown 71

Colin Howard scored a game-high 22 points off the bench to lead Wheeling Jesuit (6-2) past Pitt-Johnstown (8-4).

California (Pa.) 97, Roberts Wesleyan 76

California senior guard James Petty scored a game-high 19 points, and Osborne Gardner added 18 and a team-high six rebounds to lead California (7-3) over Roberts Wesleyan in the third-place game in the Porreco Cup men's basketball tournament at Gannon University.

Westminster 98, Marietta 73

Freshman Ryne Murray's 23 points and 11 rebounds powered Westminster (7-5) to the championship of the 36th annual Shrine Tournament.

St. Norbert 79, Geneva 69

Eric Gruenewald scored 17 points and hit four 3-pointers, as St. Norbert (3-6) beat Geneva (7-7) in the consolation game of the Centre College Holiday Tournament. After trailing by 26 points in the first half, Geneva opened the second half on a 22-4 run to cut St. Norbert's lead to two points. St. Norbert scored the next 10 points to help seal the win. Jermaine Ferguson paced Geneva with a season-high 23 points. Kyle McDermott added 19 points.

Grove City 87, Wright State-Lake Campus 77

At the McDonald's of Bluffton Holiday Tournament consolation game, Ryan Gerber scored a career-high 27 points to lead Grove City (4-6) past Wright State-Lake Campus (6-12).

Case Western Reserve 77, Juniata 64

Aaron Chamberlain scored 16 points and Chris Jasiota added 12, but Juniata (4-6) still fell to Case Western Reserve (4-6) in the consolation game of the Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament.

York 83, Thiel 71

Despite a game-high in both points (30) and rebounds (13) from Joe Herrman, Thiel (3-7) fell to York (7-5) in the consolation game of the Charles Zimmerman Memorial Classic at Wittenburg.

District Women

Butler 80, Youngstown State 56

Every starter scored in double figures, as Butler (5-8, 2-0) downed Youngstown State (2-10, 0-2) in the Horizon League.

West Liberty State 73, Edinboro 63

Charity Street scored a team-high 29 points and Lena Kelvin chipped in 24, as West Liberty State (6-2) downed Edinboro (6-5) in the second round of the Edinboro Classic.

Bentley 68, Shippensburg 61

Bentley (9-3) forced 15 turnovers and held off a late Shippensburg (7-5) rally en route to a victory in the championship game of the 2006 Division II Surf N' Slam Tournament, held at San Diego City College's Harry King Gymnasium.

Pitt-Johnstown 62, Bloomfield 50

Jessica Zapf scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, as Pitt-Johnstown (7-3) claimed the Mountain Cat Tournament championship.

Point Park 68, Grove City 66

Brittney Wilson sank a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining to give Point Park (5-5) the victory over Grove City (2-8). Wilson, who finished with 22 points, hit 6-of-11 3-point shots. Charlisa Cummins added 20 points and 10 rebounds for Point Park. Elyse Bogysz led Grove City with 16 points and nine rebounds. Grove City led at the half, 34-29.

Juniata 66, Huntingdon 49

Juniata (8-2) forced 27 turnovers in its victory over Huntingdon (2-7). Juniata's Betsy Jones led all scorers with 15 points.

Daemen 75, Tiffin 70

Germany Jackson scored 32 points to lead Daemen (11-3) to the win over Tiffin (5-8) in the consolation game of Pitt-Johnstown's Mountain Cat Tournament. Leanne Lucius scored 17 points, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, in the loss.

Glenville State 70, Ashland 62

Casey Taylor scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Rachel Redick added 25 points and seven boards as Glenville State (8-2) beat Ashland (7-6) in the second round of the Edinboro Classic. Amber Rall scored 30 points and hit 3-of-4 3-pointers for Ashland.
