Pittsburgh Male Athlete of the Week
Notable: Goodell led Ambridge's offense with 25 kills in its 3-0 victory over District 10 champion Maplewood in the PIAA Class AA volleyball championship Saturday at Penn State's Ashenfelter Multi-Sports Facility.
"It was good that everything happened at the same time and our team played well together," Goodell said. "Anytime my center would set the ball to me, I was glad I could put it down.
"Just to get that honor of playing up there where the Penn State players play is special."
Ambridge captured the WPIAL Class AA championship with a 3-0 victory over Deer Lakes behind Goodell's 25 kills May 22.
Have you looked ahead to what college you would like to attend?
"I've been talking to a couple colleges. The main ones right now are UCLA and Penn State. Penn State is my favorite, but I'm still looking."
What separates those two from the other schools that you have heard from?
"UCLA has the beach out there, and they play all year round. Penn State is only four hours away, so my whole family can come watch some of my games. There are a lot of good things about both schools."
What major do you plan on exploring?
"I've been thinking about math teaching or maybe something secondary. I'm not positive, yet."
What has been the most memorable moment of your high school career?
"Probably, when I was a freshman, being able to play with my brother (Charlie). Watching him when I was in junior high and then getting to play with him was awesome."
Do you have any prematch rituals?
Before we get to the school, I try and eat bananas or something to get potassium. When we get to the school, my teammates have a run around the gym and warm up. Before we play our game, we rock back and forth and just yell.
