Pittsburgh male athlete of the week
School : Baldwin
Class : Senior
Sport : Track
Notable : Wolfe won four first-place medals at the Baldwin Invitational on Friday.
He won the 400 meters (49.79 seconds) and the 800 (1:55.05). He also was on Baldwin 's 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams that took first. The 3,200 relay squad set a meet record with a time of 7:50.8 seconds.
Wolfe accomplished a personal goal when he was named the Most Valuable Athlete.
"I knew going in there, I wanted to win (Most Valuable Athlete)," Wolfe said. "In front of my friends and family, it was really exciting to do it and give them a show."
The Baldwin Invitational, which was comprised of 79 boys and 78 girls teams, is one of the biggest meets in the state.
The size of the competition made for a long day, and Wolfe was tired by the time he anchored the 1,600 relay -- his last event. He was going against Erie McDowell's Aaron Fitzpatrick, who Wolfe hadn't defeated in any event this season until Friday.
"When I ran (the 1,600 relay), my legs weren't feeling that great," Wolfe said. "I was surprised I had anything left in me to finish those races."
Wolfe has accepted a scholarship to run track at Louisville next year.
