Pittsburgh Female Athlete of the Week
Notable: Olivia DiNucci scored 22 points in a 60-50 loss to Hopewell and 30 in a 61-58 victory over Blackhawk in the Mt. Lebanon Tournament on Dec. 29 and 30. DiNucci led the Titans with a 30-point performance in a 62-42 rout at Latrobe on Friday. "It makes it more enjoyable when I score a lot of points and we win," DiNuccis said. "If I'm scoring a lot of points and we don't win the game, (the points) don't matter. But when I help my team win, that's what's most enjoyable."
Have you decided where you want to attend college?
I really have not. I'm really undecided of what I want to study and if I'm going to play basketball. I want to, though. I'm
pretty picky, and I want to make sure I like the school, too.
What has been your most memorable moment of your high school career?
I would probably say my sophomore year we beat Oakland Catholic in the playoffs. We weren't expected to win, and we were the underdogs. It was a good feeling because we knew we could do it, and we proved everyone wrong.
Do you play any other sports besides basketball?
I throw the javelin for the track and field team. I have the second-longest throw in school history. I want to say my farthest throw is 118 (feet). The record is 121.
Have you thought about what it's going to take for you to break the school record?
To succeed in basketball or track and field and anything else, you have to prepare. You have to lift, work on accuracy and footwork. It's pretty similar with basketball. There's more technique throwing the javelin.
What is one thing people may not know about you?
I'm the president of student government.
