Rain, wet grounds force PIAA to postpone games
WILLIAMSPORT — Heavy rains and a soggy turf Friday at historic Bowman Field forced PIAA officials to postpone the scheduled baseball championship triple-header.
The games are rescheduled for Tuesday.
The Class A game between Greensburg Central Catholic and Schuylkill Haven will kick off the action at 11 a.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. Class AA contest between Lewistown and Mifflinburg. The Class AAA game is slated for 4 p.m. between Moon Area and Liberty.
While Mother Nature stopped the baseball championship games, it didn't hinder the softball championship games at Shippensburg University. Those games were played as scheduled.
"We're disappointed the game was postponed," Greensburg Central Catholic coach Jack Korpar said. "We'll be there to play another day.
"They did both teams a favor not telling us to stay and play (today). I'm glad they made a quick decision and didn't wait until the afternoon to make it."
The decision to postpone the games was made around 9 a.m.
Korpar said the Centurions will practice Sunday and again on Monday before they leave for Williamsport.
Rain was forecast for the entire weekend in the Williamsport area.
