Notebook: Olczyk joining OLN
Former Penguins coach Eddie Olczyk, who was replaced by Michel Therrien on Dec. 15, is returning to the broadcast booth as part of the Outdoor Life Network's NHL team. Olczyk, who said Wednesday that he would continue to work for the Penguins in a scouting role, will make his analyst debut on the network Tuesday when the Minnesota Wild hosts the Phoenix Coyotes.
"It's behind my first priority with (general manager Craig Patrick) and Mario (Lemieux), but I'm looking forward to it," Olczyk said yesterday.
Olczyk was the Penguins' analyst on Fox Sports Net prior to being named coach in 2003.
"He can create some openings for Crosby and Surovy because of the way he forechecks," Therrien said. "We're going to try it this way for (today) and, hopefully, the next few weeks, and I'm confident that it's going to work."
"That caught him good," Crosby said. "He had a bad back before that, and now, a shoulder. And with the way things were going, I'm sure he was just mentally and physically tired."
"It's up to him to decide when to make a comeback," Therrien said.
