Pirates farm report
Here's how the Pirates minor league teams fared in their games played Thursday, July 31.
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 52-60) lost, 8-0, at Toledo (Tigers). Starter Mike Thompson (2-2, 5.35) allowed four runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. Jon Van Benschoten allowed three runs and two hits in 1 2/3 innings. Designated hitter Luis Ordaz had three hits, and second baseman Josh Wilson added his 18th double.
ALTOONA (Double-A, 51-60) lost, 1-0, in 10 innings at Trenton (Yankees). In the bottom of the 10th, Trenton's James Cooper doubled off reliever Ronald Belisario (4-2, 4.85), driving home Joseph Muich for the game winner. Altoona's only hit was a single by catcher Miguel Perez. Starter Joshua Hill allowed four hits and struck out three in six innings.
LYNCHBURG (High-A, 46-62) played at Myrtle Beach (Braves). The game was suspended due to rain with Lynchburg leading, 6-3.
HICKORY (Low-A, 44-65) lost, 4-0, at Savannah (Mets). Rafael De Los Santos (2-8, 5.29) took the loss. He allowed two runs (one earned) and six hits in 4 2/3 innings. First baseman Matt Hague and left fielder Joe Munoz had two hits each.
STATE COLLEGE (SS-A, 9-31) lost, 8-5, at Batavia (Cardinals). Left fielder Quincy Latimore was 4 for 4, including his eighth double, two RBI and a run scored. Catcher Miguel Mendez added a double and two RBI. Reliever Rudy Owens picked up his fifth loss after giving up four runs and five hits in three innings.
GCL PIRATES (GCL, 21-13) won, 4-2, at home against the Red Sox. Designated hitter Carlos Silva was 1 for 3, including his first homer and two RBI. Ronny Paulino, on rehab assignment since Saturday, was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Winning pitcher Nelson Pereira (2-2, 1.61 ERA) allowed two hits, two runs and struck out four in four innings of relief.
