Top-seeded Mexican faces 2-time NCAA champion
Top-seeded Luis-Manuel Flores of Mexico advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Tigran Martirosyan of Armenia on Friday in the Men's Futures of Pittsburgh at Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center.
Flores meets two-time NCAA Division I singles champion Somdev Dev Varman in today's semifinals. Dev Varman, 23, a native of India who won back-to-back NCAA titles at the University of Virginia, advanced by defeating Marcus Fugate, 6-4, 6-3.
Last year's finalist, Travis Helgeson, 22, a University of Georgia graduate, also advanced with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Bryan Koniecko.
Jean-Yves Aubone defeated Brad Pomeroy, 6-3, 6-1, to earn the other semifinal berth, opposite Helgeson.
The Futures of Pittsburgh offers $10,000 in prize money and Association of Tennis Professionals circuit points to allow direct entry into professional events.
